McCune-Albright Syndrome

We have been so blessed to have a team of the best doctors in the
world for Hannah's care. Meet them below, and if you are from the
Houston area, I highly recommend them.

(These doctors were Hannah's in the beginning. She only has Dr. Baumohl, currently, since she is
an adult and is changing over from pediatric doctors. Drs. Baumohl and Gateno are adult doctors.

Dr. Martin Baumohl Dr. Martin Baumohl, O.D.

I am truly thankful for Dr. Baumohl and the Mann Eye Clinic. I had had Hannah to two different eye doctors in the year she had been complaining, and they both said only that she didn't need glasses. Dr. Baumohl and his team found that Hannah has something pressing on her optic nerve and sent us for the MRI that started our whole journey into MAS/FD.
(Another note: Dr. Baumohl decided that if he gave Hannah glasses to magnify and clear up a slight astigmatism that is normally not corrected, that there was a possibility that she would regain her vision. He was right! Hannah now can see perfectly, even with the blind half of her left eye. The man is a genius!)

Dr. James Baumgartner Dr. James Baumgartner - Pediatric Neurosurgeon

Dr. B. is without a doubt one of the most compassionate doctors
I've ever been privileged to meet. He's never in so much of a hurry
that he can't talk, and his care and concern for Hannah have gone
beyond the norm. He told me that he would like to do more surgery
on kids like Hannah - so if your child has craniofacial FD and you are
around Houston, don't hesitate to call him.
(Another note: We just told Dr. B. in our last appointment, 7/23/01, that Hannah can now see. He got tears in his eyes and just grabbed her and hugged her in triumph. He definitely cares for his patients as more than just numbers, and I feel very fortunate that he is Hannah's doctor.)

Dr. John Teichgraeber Dr. John Teichgraeber - Pediatric Plastic Surgeon

Dr. T. is not only the best in his field, he's a man that a child can relate
to. He calls Hannah "Shugs", and made her smile when no one else could. When Hannah had her craniotomy, Dr. T. not only did the bone reconstruction, he braided her hair to keep it up and out of the way (Thank you, Amy, for that idea!) I thought that was a sign of a man, who like Dr. B., goes beyond just being your surgeon.

Dr. Patrick Brosnan Dr. Patrick Brosnan - Pediatric Endocrinologist

Dr. Brosnan is a wonderful man! Caring and witty, he put us at ease right
away. He is the one that diagnosed Hannah with MAS. He treats more MAS kids than just Hannah - working at the Shriners hospital with some.
His extreme competence is very comforting when your child is unique.

Dr. Brosnan is now retired. 6/16/08

Dr. Jaime Gateno
Dr. Jaime Gateno - Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Dr. Gateno is a friend of Dr.'s B. and T. and just as pleasant to work with as they are. Fortunately, at this time Hannah doesn't need the jaw surgery that we were seeing Dr. Gateno about, although her cheek is a concern. If the cheek surgery isn't necessary, we'll be following up with Dr. Gateno in a year to see how things are going. He's tops in his field too, just like all these others, and you couldn't have a nicer guy to go see if you are in our area.

Dr. Howard Epps
Dr. Howard Epps - Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Epps is our newest doctor. We were searching for an ortho doc to take care of Hannah's future bone checkups, and not knowing anyone, I emailed Dr. Michael Collins from NIH to see if he had a suggestion of someone in our area. He had gone to school with Dr. Epps and highly recommended him. If you know anything at all about MAS/PFD, Dr. Collins is the ultimate expert, so a recommendation by him is high praise indeed. We liked Dr. Epps very much; his calm attitude is very reassuring.
