McCune-Albright Syndrome

The Ronald McDonald House of Houston.

I could not say enough good about the Ronald McDonald House if I typed pages and pages. This is one of the greatest organizations in the world.
When we first arrived for Hannah's appointment with MDA, the social worker told us that she would call and see if we could get a room at the Ronald McDonald House. We were really glad to find out that there was one available, and we went there after the pre-surgery MRI. I don't think there is anything they haven't thought of to make your stay as comfortable and homelike as possible. The rooms are big and everything there is so clean. You are responsible for making your own bed, washing your linens and towels, etc. and in addition to keeping up your room, you are assigned a chore of the house. It might be straightening and stocking the supply closet for your floor (which was our chore) or cleaning the counters around the microwaves, but everyone has something to do to help. There is a huge kitchen area where you can sign up to cook and a dining area to eat in. You have assigned refrigerator and freezer space, and there is also a free refrigerator and pantry that is stocked with things for you to use if you haven't gotten your own things yet, of if you don't have the money. There is a game room, a place to use the Internet and an indoor, as well as an outdoor, play area. You can check out cell phones to use for a certain time length. There are TV rooms and lots of bookshelves stocked with books. And there is always a friendly person from Texas, Scotland or even Chile to talk to! You'll make friends, and so will your kids - realizing that some things bridge all cultures.
If there is any way you can support the efforts of the Ronald McDonald House, I urge you to do so. You can visit the local Houston house by clicking on the logo above - they have lists of things they need at all times, so if you can't donate your time, you can still donate!
